Matthew 7:13-14
Narrow Path Pilgrim Distinctives
Welcome to Narrow Path Pilgrim!
This page is designed to help you understand who we are and begin your journey of authentic faith.
Who We Are
Are you a church outsider, or a Christ insider?
If you love Jesus deeply but feel spiritually homeless in contemporary church culture, Narrow Path Pilgrim is your home. We exist for the remnant—believers who are done with lukewarm religion and long to follow Jesus beyond the church walls.
You're not a church misfit. You're a Christ insider finding your way home.
Our Theological Foundation
"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'" - John 14:6
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness." - 2 Timothy 3:16
We aspire to the narrow fundamentals of the Christian faith:
-
Biblical Authority - Scripture as God's inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word
-
Trinity - One God in three persons: Father, Son, Holy Spirit
-
Deity of Christ - Jesus as fully God and fully man
-
Salvation by Grace - Salvation through faith in Christ alone, not works
-
Christ's Exclusivity - Jesus as the only way to the Father
-
Death and Resurrection - Christ's atoning death and bodily resurrection
-
Second Coming - Christ's return and final judgment
These "narrow fundamentals" represent the core, non-negotiable truths of Christian faith, upon which all authentic discipleship is built.
Our critical thinking isn't doubt for doubt's sake—it's a rigorous pursuit of truth rooted in these biblical foundations. We affirm these foundational truths of Christianity while recognizing that authentic faith often requires moving beyond religious performance into genuine discipleship guided by God's Word. We believe God's truth can withstand scrutiny and that authentic faith often emerges through wrestling with difficult passages and life experiences, leading to a deeper, more resilient faith.
The remnant believers we serve span the full spectrum of Christian spiritual temperaments: Pure Christian Mystics who primarily connect with God through contemplative inwardness and spiritual disciplines; Practical Christian Mystics who blend deep contemplation with active service in the world; Discipleship Evangelists who focus on spiritual formation while sharing their faith through discipleship; and Pure Evangelists who engage the world boldly with gospel proclamation. All temperaments pursue the same narrow path of biblical orthodoxy, yet each brings their God-designed gifts to the Body of Christ.
Our Central Metaphors
The Narrow Path - Jesus's call to authentic discipleship that few find, beyond the broad way of religious performance
The Bridge - Jesus Christ himself, spanning the gap between seeking and belonging, connecting all spiritual temperaments
Bridge Brothers - Historical mentors like Brother Lawrence and Henri Nouwen who, through their lives and writings, serve as witnesses pointing to Christ Himself—embodying aspects of the narrow path, but never being the destination
The Wood Bench - The place of contemplative rest where pilgrims pause to encounter Jesus in the ordinary moments
The Beacon/Lighthouse - The guiding light of Christ that draws spiritual wanderers safely home to their place in God's family
The Hourglass - The sacred present moment where eternity intersects with time, reminding us that spiritual formation happens now
Our Core Distinctives
The Bridge IS Jesus. Every spiritual practice, mentor, and path we explore exists for one purpose: to point you to Jesus Christ himself. We don't offer alternative spirituality—we offer authentic Christianity that transcends denominational boundaries and religious performance.
Guided Critical Inquiry. We encourage deep questions within the biblical boundaries outlined in our Theological Foundation. Our approach to Scripture is reverent yet rigorous, leading to a deeper, more resilient faith.
Connection to the Eternal Body of Christ. While we understand the pain of feeling disconnected from traditional institutions, Narrow Path Pilgrim seeks to connect individuals to the eternal Body of Christ. We're not anti-church—we're pro-authentic faith that fosters true fellowship wherever it can be found, whether in renewed existing communities or new expressions of biblical Christianity.
Purposeful Niche Focus. Our distinctive calling is to serve those who question, seek authenticity, and desire deeper spiritual engagement beyond conventional paradigms. We own this focused ministry rather than trying to be everything to everyone, believing that by serving this specific community deeply, we can foster profound and transformative spiritual journeys.
Bridge Brothers as Witnesses, Not Teachers. Our historical mentors—from Brother Lawrence to Henri Nouwen to A.W. Tozer—serve as witnesses pointing to Christ, not theological authorities. While we learn from their authentic pursuit of Jesus and spiritual formation insights, we don't endorse every aspect of their theology or personal views. We mine the gold of their Christ-centered devotion while filtering everything through our biblical foundation.
Christ-Centered Everything. Every piece of content, every assessment, and every conversation ultimately points to Jesus. We use a systematic Christ-Centered Checkpoint Protocol to ensure that no matter what we're discussing, the destination is always a deeper relationship with Him.
What We Are (and Are Not)
We Are: A supplementary resource for spiritual inquiry and connection, designed to help believers deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ through authentic community and biblical mentorship.
We Are Not: A replacement for healthy local church fellowship, nor a platform for theological drift or rebellious individualism. We encourage engagement with the broader Body of Christ wherever genuine faith can be found.
Our Community Values
Grace-Filled Dialogue - We create space for honest questions within a framework of biblical truth and mutual respect.
Shared Pursuit of Christ - Every interaction, assessment, and conversation ultimately aims at deeper relationship with Jesus.
Authentic Connection - We foster genuine fellowship among believers who value depth over performance, substance over appearance.
Mutual Support - We walk alongside fellow pilgrims on the narrow path, offering encouragement and biblical wisdom for the journey.
Grace for the Journey We recognize that not every Narrow Path Pilgrim will agree on all secondary matters all the time, and we don't seek to "Pilgrim-Proof" our community. New believers, growing disciples, and mature saints all walk the narrow path together, extending grace as the Holy Spirit works in each heart. Our unity centers on the essential foundations above, while allowing room for growth, questions, and sanctification in the non-essentials.
Our Guiding Principles
These guiding principles inform every aspect of our journey and community:
-
Christ-Centeredness: Every path leads to Jesus, every question finds its answer in Him
-
Biblical Authority: Scripture guides our inquiry and grounds our conclusions
-
Authentic Community: Real fellowship transcends denominational boundaries
-
Spiritual Formation: Growth happens through daily encounter, not just Sunday attendance
-
Grace in Process: We extend patience to ourselves and others on the pilgrimage
Welcome home, pilgrim.
